Hey there, folks! Today we’re talking about the rise in complaints of violence against women in India. It seems like there are just way too many cases pending with the State and National Women’s Commissions and family courts. Around half of these complaints are related to family disputes, which is just heartbreaking.
To tackle this issue, the National Commission for Women has kicked off the ‘Mahila Aayog Aaplya Daari’ campaign. This initiative aims to address these complaints through regional hearings, which is definitely a step in the right direction. Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar is leading the charge and also pushing for government recognition for ‘Abhaya,’ a term she wants to use instead of ‘single women.’
Recently, there was a state-level ‘Abhaya’ conference organized by Vanchit Vikas and Udaykaal Foundation in Pune. The event saw representatives from 50 social organizations working for single women across Maharashtra coming together to discuss the challenges they face. It’s great to see so many people working towards the empowerment of women.
Vijaya Rahatkar highlighted the importance of integrating ‘Abhaya’ women into society and providing them with the support they need. She mentioned that organizations working for them play a crucial role in fostering acceptance and positive attitudes within society. The Women’s Commission is even working on recommendations for the holistic development of these women, which will be submitted to the central government soon.
The conference also included discussions on government schemes and opportunities available for social organizations. It’s clear that there’s a lot of work to be done, but with initiatives like the ‘Mahila Aayog Aaplya Daari’ campaign and the efforts of organizations like Vanchit Vikas and Udaykaal Foundation, we’re moving in the right direction. Let’s keep pushing for the empowerment of women and creating a more inclusive society for all.
