The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is cracking down on unauthorized hoardings, flex banners, and placards in the city. They have started imposing fines and even registering criminal cases against repeat offenders. According to Prashant Thombre, Head of PMC’s Sky Signs Department, the civic body is determined to curb the illegal flex banner menace.
Although PMC had previously taken action against unauthorized flexes, they have seen a resurgence in recent months. Despite removal efforts, illegal hoardings keep reappearing in various locations. PMC has removed 2,052 unauthorized hoardings and flexes, collected ₹1.36 lakh in fines, filed 15 police complaints, and registered 2 criminal cases against offenders.
Some citizens claim that certain PMC regional offices are not taking action against unauthorized flex banners, leaving them in place for weeks. Allegations also suggest that some officials protect illegal flex installers. However, with the combination of financial penalties and legal action, PMC hopes to deter repeat offenders and restore order in Pune.
