Infosys, a prominent technology firm, has come under fire for allegedly terminating over 700 newly hired employees, as reported by the IT employee union, NITES. The union claims that these individuals were let go shortly after joining the company, with some being required to sign confidentiality agreements to keep the details of their layoffs under wraps.
NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja has criticized Infosys for its actions, calling them unethical and concerning. The union has also raised concerns about the use of security personnel and bouncers during the termination process, which they believe was meant to intimidate the affected employees.
In response to the allegations, Infosys explained that the terminated employees had failed internal assessments that are part of the onboarding process. The company stated that all new hires are given multiple opportunities to pass these evaluations, and failure to do so results in disqualification according to their contracts.
While Infosys defended its evaluation process, NITES has vowed to file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, urging the government to step in and take action against the company. The union is calling for the protection of the rights and dignity of Indian IT professionals in the face of what they consider to be corporate exploitation.
