The PCMC’s Building Permission and Unauthorized Construction Control Department, along with regional action teams, recently demolished illegal structures covering 1.83 million square feet in a massive operation. Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh oversaw the action, which took place with heavy deployment.
The operation, which covered nearly 42 acres, involved 4 executive engineers, 16 deputy engineers from PCMC, 180 Maharashtra Security Force personnel, 600 police officers and laborers, 16 poclains, 8 JCBs, 1 crane, and 4 cutters. Additionally, 3 fire engines and 2 ambulances were on standby for emergency support.
Authorities from the police department and electricity board were also present to ensure the operation ran smoothly. Additional Police Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi and other Deputy Commissioners provided security cover.
The action was taken because the illegal constructions were built on reserved land meant for urban development and public amenities. These structures in the Kudalwaadi area posed safety risks, including fire hazards and pollution violations. PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of restoring law and order and stated that similar demolition drives will continue in the future.
Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil highlighted the significance of public safety in providing civic amenities, particularly in areas like Kudalwaadi where illegal structures posed a high fire risk.
