Hey Pune peeps, guess what? Your water supply situation is looking pretty good this year! Thanks to higher rainfall compared to last year, the Khadakwasla dam chain is at full capacity. So, no need to panic about running out of water just yet.
But hold your horses, folks. Even though the dams are filled to the brim, we still need to be mindful of our water consumption. As of now, 10 TMC of water has already been guzzled up since the monsoon bid us adieu. That’s a lot of H2O!
The Khadakwasla dam project, which includes Khadakwasla, Panshet, Temghar, and Warasgaon dams, can hold a total of 29 TMC of water. Right now, we’ve got 19.05 TMC in the bank, which is 1.84 TMC more than last year. Not too shabby, right?
But here’s the kicker – with temperatures soaring in December and January, we’ve been using up more water than usual. And let’s not forget about our rural friends who rely on our water for their crops. It’s a delicate balance that we need to maintain.
As the June monsoon approaches, the administration is gearing up to ensure that we have enough water to go around. And with municipal elections on the horizon, water supply could become a hot topic of debate. So, let’s all do our part to conserve water and keep Pune hydrated for years to come.
