Have you heard about the recent ATM frauds targeting senior citizens in Pune? It seems like scammers are preying on the elderly by offering assistance at ATMs and then stealing their cards and PINs to withdraw money illegally. Here’s a rundown of the incidents that have occurred across different areas in Pune:

1. In Kondhwa, a senior citizen was duped at an ATM on East Street in Pune Camp. The fraudster pretended to help the victim and ended up withdrawing ₹11,500 from their account. The crime was only discovered when the victim noticed the unauthorized transaction and reported it to Lashkar Police Station.

2. Another incident took place in the Anand Nagar area on Paud Road, where an elderly woman had her card stolen and ₹1 lakh withdrawn from her account. The victim, who resides in Kothrud, has lodged a complaint with Kothrud Police Station.

3. The largest fraud occurred in Dhankawadi, where a senior citizen lost a whopping ₹3.55 lakh to a similar scam at an ATM near Teen Hatti Chowk. The perpetrator used the same tactic of offering to help and swapping the victim’s card with a fake one.

The Pune Police are currently investigating all three cases and are advising senior citizens to be cautious when using ATMs. They recommend avoiding help from strangers during transactions and encourage the public to report any suspicious activity around ATMs immediately.

It’s a reminder to always stay vigilant and protect yourself from these types of scams, especially if you’re a senior citizen. Stay safe, Pune!
