Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is currently facing a major issue with a rat infestation, causing distress among students and staff. The problem is especially bad in the library, labs, and hostels, leading to damage to students’ belongings.
Recently, two students from Hostel No. 6 showed signs of rabies, bringing attention to the severity of the situation. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has criticized the hostel administration for not taking action despite complaints being made three months ago.
Students from the Hindi and Economics departments have been trying to meet with hostel authorities for months to address the problem, but their concerns have reportedly been ignored. One student even had to be hospitalized for two days after being bitten by rats multiple times on the leg.
Reports suggest that the rats have been causing damage to food, clothes, and books. The ABVP is demanding immediate action, such as relocating affected students, implementing pest control measures, and improving cleanliness in all hostels. If their demands are not met, the student organization has threatened to organize protests.
The university is facing a serious issue that needs to be addressed promptly to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
