Hey folks, if you’re living in one of the nearly 10,000 cooperative housing societies in Maharashtra, you might be feeling frustrated with the delays in self-redevelopment projects. Especially in cities like Pune, Mumbai, and Thane, where the promise of a single-window approval system made back in 2019 seems to have hit a roadblock.

The Maharashtra State Cooperative Federation is eager to kickstart these projects, with around 8,000 to 10,000 societies showing interest in self-redevelopment. But the lengthy and complex approval process is holding them back, leaving them in a state of uncertainty.

Legal expert Shreeprasad Parab highlighted the government’s proposal of a 4% subsidized loan for societies opting for self-redevelopment, but unfortunately, this scheme is still waiting to be effectively implemented. This financial assistance could make a huge difference for these societies, making self-redevelopment a more feasible option.

Residents of these housing societies are facing challenges in obtaining approvals from various departments, including property tax, electricity, and municipal authorities. The slow approval process is causing frustration, with some societies potentially facing years of waiting just to get past the initial hurdles.

Despite the government’s directive for deemed conveyance to be granted within a month for self-redevelopment, state cooperative department officials claim they haven’t received any applications. This suggests that there might be a gap between policy announcements and actual execution on the ground.

The Maharashtra State Cooperative Federation is urging the Chief Minister to implement the promised single-window clearance system to simplify and expedite the approval process. If this system is put in place, it could finally allow these societies to move forward with their redevelopment plans.

So, for now, it looks like these housing societies will have to continue navigating the challenges and delays in the hopes of finally being able to revamp their living spaces. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for some positive developments in the near future!
