Hey Pune folks, get ready to pedal your way to the metro stations! Pune Metro is rolling out an e-bike rental service at select stations along the Pimpri-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi routes, making it easier for commuters to cover that last mile.
In a partnership with TS Switch – eRides, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) is set to deploy 50 e-bikes at each of the 10 major stations, including PCMC Building, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Nashik Phata, Dapodi, Shivajinagar, and Swargate. Riders can simply access these bikes through a mobile app or by scanning QR codes at the stations.
These e-bikes are designed for short-distance travel, with a maximum speed of 25 km/h and the capacity to carry two riders weighing up to 150 kg. They can travel up to 80 km on a single charge and come with a swappable battery system for quick replacements in under five minutes.
To use this service, users will need to complete KYC verification and agree to the company’s terms. The e-bikes will also be equipped with live tracking, geo-fencing, and an SOS button for added safety.
Pricing for the e-bikes starts at ₹1.50 per minute, with hourly and daily packages available for ₹55 and ₹450 respectively. This initiative aims to enhance metro connectivity and offer a sustainable, eco-friendly solution for last-mile travel in Pune.
With Pune Metro’s daily ridership exceeding 1,60,000 and growing, this e-bike service is expected to further increase metro usage by addressing the crucial last-mile connectivity challenge in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. So, get ready to hop on these e-bikes and make your metro commute even smoother!
