The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is making significant strides in accelerating the development of the inner ring road project, a much-anticipated infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in Pune. Here are some key highlights of the project:
1. Massive Undertaking: The inner ring road project is estimated to cost ₹14,200 crore, making it a substantial investment in Pune’s infrastructure.
2. Land Acquisition: PMRDA plans to acquire 115 hectares of land across 13 villages for the road. The district collector’s office has completed a joint survey to start the land valuation process.
3. Route Details: The 83-km road will connect Pune-Satara Road to Ahmednagar Road, with 42 connecting roads, 17 bridges, and 10 tunnels. A 5-meter-wide space will also be reserved for future metro tracks.
4. Phases of Development: The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase focusing on easing congestion on Ahmednagar Road and the second phase extending over 44 villages in various talukas.
5. Interconnection: The inner ring road will link up with MSRDC’s outer circular ring road at Solu village, enhancing connectivity and reducing traffic pressure in Pune’s core areas.
6. Land Acquisition Progress: PMRDA has started acquiring land for a 6.5-km stretch from Alandi to Wagholi on Ahmednagar Road and has submitted proposals for land acquisition in 13 villages.
7. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Stretch: A 5.7-km section within PMC limits will be developed under a PPP model, connecting Pune to Pimpri-Chinchwad via Lohegaon.
8. Importance of the Project: The inner ring road is essential for reducing congestion, improving connectivity, and promoting sustainable urban development in Pune.
With PMRDA’s efforts to fast-track the inner ring road project, Pune is set to witness significant improvements in its infrastructure, urban mobility, and overall development. The project’s completion is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the city’s future growth and prosperity.
