Pune, 12th February 2025: If you’ve been feeling a bit confused by the weather lately, you’re not alone. Pune is currently experiencing some unexpected changes in temperature, with chilly mornings quickly turning into scorching afternoons. While February is typically known for being one of the coldest months of the year, this year seems to be throwing us a curveball with this mix of cold and heat. It looks like summer might be arriving early in Pune!
While our neighbors in Mumbai are enjoying cooler temperatures, Pune and other parts of western Maharashtra are seeing an increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures. This back-and-forth between cold and heat has created a unique weather pattern where cold spells are short-lived and quickly replaced by intense afternoon heat. It’s definitely not the February weather we’re used to!
In Niphad, temperatures have even dropped to a chilly 8°C, adding to the confusion. Experts believe that shifting wind patterns and regional climate differences are to blame for these fluctuations in temperature.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight drop in minimum temperatures by 2°C to 4°C in Pune and North-Central Maharashtra in the coming days. Northerly winds are expected to sweep through the region, bringing cooler nights starting Wednesday night and lasting through the morning of 14th February. While this might provide some relief from the unusual warmth, residents are already feeling the heat of summer creeping in during the afternoons.
Weather experts are warning that these erratic weather patterns may become more common as broader climate changes take place. So, be prepared for the unexpected as we navigate through these unusual weather conditions in Pune!
