It was a terrifying ordeal for an elderly woman in Camp who was attacked by two men on a motorcycle who snatched her purse on the evening of June 16. The 70-year-old victim suffered a fractured right hand and injuries to her shoulders and head during the incident, which took place around 9:15 p.m.
The victim’s husband, a retired colonel, filed a police complaint the following day, recounting the events of Father’s Day when the family had gone out to celebrate at a restaurant on East Street. As they were crossing the road, the two suspects rode by and grabbed the woman’s purse, causing her to fall to the ground.
Fortunately, a passing autorickshaw stopped to help, and two women passengers assisted the victim back to their car before taking her to the hospital. Sub Inspector Mahendra Kamble of the Cantonment police revealed that the victim is still hospitalized with a fractured hand and head injuries.
The suspects made off with cash, a cellphone, and other items totaling Rs 16,000 as they fled towards Indira Gandhi Chowk. Due to the lack of CCTV surveillance in the area, the police are now reviewing footage from nearby locations and commercial establishments in hopes of identifying the culprits.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of street crime in the city and the importance of remaining vigilant while out in public. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects to come forward and assist in their apprehension.
