Pune residents were shocked to learn about the arrest of Mohit Ram Singh Dhami, a civilian accused of running a fake army recruitment racket in the city. Dhami was caught near Pune Railway Station last night by a joint operation conducted by Bund Garden Police and Southern Command Military Intelligence.

The arrest came after a complaint was filed by a young man from Dhule named Ravindra Janardan Bilade, who claimed that Dhami had scammed him and his friend out of a whopping Rs 4.80 crore. The incident took place last year when Bilade and his friend were in Pune for a government job exam.

According to the complaint, Dhami posed as an employee at the Southern Command Hospital and convinced the victims that he could secure their selection in the army, despite them being overage. Over a few days, Dhami collected their documents and money, with Bilade sending Rs 2.80 lakh and his friend sending Rs 2 lakh.

It was later revealed that Dhami had been targeting candidates from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Maharashtra. Each candidate was charged Rs. 2 lakh for the fake army recruitment promise.

Bund Garden Police have filed a case against Dhami under Sections 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating by personation and cheating with dishonest inducement, respectively.

The Southern Command Military Intelligence Pune provided vital information about Dhami’s activities to the police, leading to his arrest. The authorities are currently interrogating the accused at Bund Garden Police Station to unravel further details about the scam. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
