As the Maharashtra State Assembly Elections draw closer, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is facing a major hurdle with several key positions remaining unfilled. Six Deputy Commissioner roles, essential for managing administrative affairs, are currently vacant, along with one Additional Commissioner position. This has put a strain on the PMC Commissioner who is now burdened with overseeing all portfolios, impacting the efficiency of administrative operations.

The engineering team of PMC is also anticipating a wave of upcoming vacancies in department head positions this year. Failure to promptly fill these roles could further complicate administrative operations and hinder citizen services. Currently, out of the 18 Deputy Commissioner positions in PMC, six remain vacant, forcing existing officers to take on additional responsibilities and affecting the overall administrative capabilities of the PMC.

Despite the transfer of four Deputy Commissioners before the Lok Sabha elections, the vacant positions have yet to be filled. Discussions are underway regarding the potential transfer of Additional Commissioner Ravindra Binwade, which could further concentrate leadership responsibilities on the Commissioner and one Additional Commissioner.

As PMC continues to grapple with these staffing challenges while preparing for elections, it is imperative that qualified officials are appointed in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted governance and service delivery to the citizens.
