Hey Pune peeps, listen up! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is on a mission to ensure the safety of all 672 bridges across the city before the monsoon hits. Yup, that’s right, they’re getting a structural audit done on bridges over rivers, drains, railway lines, flyovers, subways, and pedestrian walkways.

According to Sandeep Patil, Executive Engineer of the Project Department, the PMC is following guidelines from the Public Works Department to conduct these audits. It’s all about making sure that our bridges can handle the upcoming monsoon season and the city’s increasing traffic.

We all know how important bridges are in keeping Pune moving smoothly. From the historic ones dating back to the British era to the newer ones built by the municipal corporation, these bridges are essential for managing traffic congestion. And with more bridges planned for the city’s development, it’s crucial to keep them in top-notch condition.

Right now, the PMC is working on a new bridge connecting Karvenagar and Suncity, as well as a recently completed bridge in Aundh to improve connectivity with Pimpri-Chinchwad. Plus, there are small culverts, flyovers, underpasses, and pedestrian bridges popping up all over the city to keep up with urban expansion.

But safety is key, especially with the threat of floods and waterlogging during the monsoon. That’s why the PMC is investing ₹10 crore in bridge audits and structural reinforcements this year, with more funds expected in the next financial year. A consulting firm will inspect all 672 bridges and provide a detailed safety report, so the PMC can make any necessary repairs or strengthening.

So, if you spot any damages or concerns with a bridge in your area, make sure to report it to the PMC. Let’s all do our part to keep Pune safe and sound!
