Pollution levels in the Ram River have hit an all-time high, thanks to the unchecked discharge of sewage and waste materials in Bhugaon. Local activist Krunal Ghare has been fighting for the river’s restoration and has now taken legal action to ensure measures are put in place.

After persistent pressure, the Bhugaon Gram Panchayat has finally agreed to establish a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) along the river to address the pollution issue. This move has been supported by concerned citizens who are eager to see the river’s ecological balance restored.

Ghare expressed his satisfaction with the progress, stating, “I have been advocating for the Ram River’s health for years, and it’s great to see the Gram Panchayat taking action. The STP will be crucial in keeping the river clean and it’s positive to see the PMC also getting involved.”

While the PMC has agreed to connect Bhugaon’s sewage system to the Bavdhan STP, funding remains a challenge for the Gram Panchayat. To overcome this hurdle, officials are looking into CSR funding to finance the much-needed infrastructure for the project.
