If you’re a vehicle owner in Maharashtra, specifically Pune, you’ll want to take note of the latest mandate from the State Government regarding High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP). These plates, with unique PINs on both the front and rear plates, are designed to prevent plate swapping and make vehicle identification easier.
The enforcement of this mandate is set to begin after 31st March 2025, so make sure you get your HSRP installed before then to avoid any penalties from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). If your vehicle was produced or distributed after 1st April 2019, you should already have HSRPs installed. However, for vehicles registered before this date, you’ll need to get them installed by the upcoming deadline.
The cost of HSRPs varies based on the type of vehicle you own, ranging from ₹450 + GST for motorcycles and tractors to ₹745 + GST for four-wheelers and other vehicles. To get your HSRP, you’ll need to register online, select a fitment centre from the provided list, visit the centre on the appointed date, and have the plate installed and registered in the vehicle system by the vendor.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale stressed the importance of only getting HSRPs installed by government-authorized vendors. Plates from unauthorized sources may look similar but won’t be registered in the vehicle system, leaving your HSRP status pending. So make sure you follow the proper process to stay on the right side of the law.
