1. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has given the green light for the reopening of 30 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in areas affected by Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).
  2. Residents in Kirkatwadi, Nandoshi, Khadakwasla, and nearby areas have been struggling to access safe drinking water from PMC’s purification centers.
  3. Operators of the RO plants must register their facilities with PMC, conduct thorough servicing, and allow inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  4. Prithviraj BP, Additional Commissioner of PMC, highlighted the necessity of reopening RO plants to provide safe drinking water to residents.
  5. Operators must submit formal applications, get systems repaired by authorized Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and meet WHO or IS 10500 (2012) standards for purified water.
  6. Samples of purified water will be tested in state or PMC-run laboratories before plants are fully approved for operation.
  7. Residents in GBS-affected areas have cautiously welcomed the reopening of RO plants.
  8. PMC is legally responsible for maintaining private water sources used for drinking, emphasizing the importance of safe and reliable water for all residents.
