In a recent development in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to take action against a deputy commissioner for allegedly granting hawker licenses to 30 traders in the Shivdatta Mini Market at Parihar Chowk, Aundh. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. has confirmed that a proposal for a departmental inquiry has been forwarded to PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale after confirming the charges against the accused official.

The controversy arose when the licenses were issued last year in an area known for causing traffic congestion. Former PMC Corporater Archana Musale and her husband Adv. Madhukar Musale had been advocating for the removal of these shops near Parihar Chowk to ease traffic problems. They alleged serious violations of regulations by the deputy commissioner in question.

An investigation committee led by Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. was set up by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to look into the matter. The inquiry uncovered various irregularities in the license issuance process, including permits being issued for an area outside the commissioner’s jurisdiction and traders being granted licenses without providing the mandatory domicile certificate.

Despite orders from the PMC Commissioner to take disciplinary action a month ago, the appointment of an inquiry officer is still pending. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. mentioned that a proposal for appointing an inquiry officer has been submitted, and further actions will be taken as per the Commissioner’s directives.

The confirmation of charges against the deputy commissioner has sparked questions about the lack of action against other officials who may have been involved in the irregularities. The situation is still unfolding as the PMC moves forward with the disciplinary proceedings.
