1. The government is all set to make the Purandar airport operational by March 2029, aiming to provide an alternative facility for passenger and cargo services in Pune. Originally planned for Chakan, the project was shifted to Purandar due to local opposition.
  2. To ensure easy access to the airport, district authorities have been instructed to speed up the land acquisition and infrastructure development process. Six proposed roads will connect the airport to key routes like Pune’s Inner Ring Road, Pune-Satara Road, and Solapur Highway.
  3. Major road projects include a 15 km stretch from Uruli Kanchan to Jejuri costing ₹174 crore, a 10.5 km route from Saswad to Pargaon Chaufula costing ₹91.35 crore, and a 19.5 km Bopdeo Ghat Road with a budget of ₹130.50 crore.
  4. In addition to new roads, existing roads in the metropolitan area will undergo upgrades, and the NHAI and the state’s Public Works Department will work on enhancing alternate routes to improve connectivity for the airport.
  5. With these developments in place, the Purandar airport is on track to become a significant transportation hub in the region, providing better access for both passengers and cargo operations.
