If you love exploring the scenic hills of Pune, you’ll be glad to hear about the latest security measures being implemented to ensure your safety. With concerns rising after the tragic Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, the Maharashtra government has allocated a whopping ₹80 crore to the Pune Police for upgrading security in these remote areas.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wasted no time in announcing the release of funds, with plans to have the enhanced security measures in place within the next six months. The project will be rolled out in two phases, starting with 12 hills in Pune that have been identified as hotspots for crimes like robbery and assault.
To keep a watchful eye on these areas, a total of 600 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras will be strategically installed across 22 hills, including popular spots like Vetal Hill, Parvati, and Hanuman Hill. Among these cameras, 200 will be equipped with Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) functionality, while AI-based cameras will help detect and track criminal activities in real time.
In addition to the surveillance cameras, panic buttons will be placed at key locations on the hills to alert the police control room in case of emergencies. This, coupled with 177 high-intensity floodlights, will ensure better visibility during nighttime.
But that’s not all – drones and patrolling vehicles will be deployed for real-time surveillance, while a radio frequency system will be implemented to boost police coordination in areas with weak communication signals. And when the panic button is activated, the police control room will receive live CCTV footage to enable a swift response.
A senior police officer emphasized the importance of these security enhancements, stating, “We are committed to ensuring public safety. The integration of AI-based surveillance, panic buttons, and real-time monitoring will significantly strengthen security on Pune’s hills and prevent criminal activities.”
With these measures in place, Pune’s hills are set to become safer for residents and visitors alike, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the government and law enforcement agencies. So next time you plan a trek or picnic on the hills, rest assured that steps are being taken to keep you safe and secure.
