Shah’s remarks at the event highlighted the monumental scale of the housing approvals under PMAY-G, with a record-breaking 20 lakh people receiving approvals at once. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving rural living standards by providing not just homes, but also essential amenities like solar panels, in-house bathrooms, and gas cylinders.
In a subtle jab at Rahul Gandhi, Shah referenced the skepticism the Congress leader had shown towards the Jan Dhan Yojana in the past. Shah pointed out that while Gandhi had questioned the purpose of the Jan Dhan accounts, today, thanks to a single click, 10 lakh people have received the first installment for their houses.
The political undertones in Maharashtra were also evident, with Shah emphasizing that voters had chosen the real Shiv Sena and NCP in the recent assembly elections, solidifying the victory of the Mahayuti alliance.
The event was graced by the presence of several key leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, and other state ministers and MPs.
The PMAY-G scheme continues to transform rural housing by providing financial assistance for construction in various regions, with funding shared between the Union and state governments. As of February 2, 2025, a significant number of houses have been allocated, sanctioned, and completed under the scheme. The Union Cabinet has also approved the construction of an additional 2 crore houses under PMAY-G from 2024-25 to 2028-29, furthering the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing for all.
