Hey Pune peeps, exciting news on the metro front! The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) is planning to extend the Swargate-Katraj underground metro corridor by adding two new stations鈥擝alaji Nagar (Bharati Vidyapeeth) and Sahakar Nagar (Bibvewadi). How cool is that?

The proposal was sent to the state government at the end of January, and officials are hopeful that a new tender will be floated once it gets the green light. The best part? Since the entire metro line is underground, there won’t be a need for massive land acquisition. However, they will be acquiring land for the development of the stations.

Originally, the Swargate-Katraj metro stretch included three stations, but thanks to demands from the locals, two more stations have been added. This has pushed up the project cost by Rs 683 crore, with the funding breakdown being 10% from the Centre, 15% from the Maharashtra government, and another 15% from the PMC, with the rest being raised through loans.

The total cost of the project has now increased to Rs 3,638 crore, but officials are optimistic about getting state approval soon. Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, mentioned that the addition of the new stations will benefit Pune residents greatly. Fingers crossed for a smooth approval process and speedy construction! Get ready for a smoother commute, Pune! 馃殗馃帀
