Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar is cracking down on rule violators in the city. In a recent address at a dialogue program organized by the Pune Union of Working Journalists, Kumar emphasized the importance of treating citizens with courtesy while enforcing traffic laws. He announced plans to establish a dedicated training institute for traffic police officers in Pune, similar to the one in Mumbai.

Kumar highlighted the ongoing traffic challenges in Pune and mentioned that the police are working closely with the Pune Municipal Corporation and other government agencies to address the issue. He stressed the importance of public relations for traffic police officers and stated that they should not treat drivers or pedestrians as criminals.

To improve law enforcement efforts, Kumar revealed that ₹1,000 crore has been allocated for traffic-related works and infrastructure in Pune. Additionally, 800 new police personnel have been recruited, and ₹435 crore has been sanctioned for installing advanced CCTV cameras across the city. Seven new police stations have also been inaugurated to strengthen law enforcement.

In a stern warning to habitual offenders, Kumar stated that those involved in acts of violence and vandalism will face strict action under laws like MCOCA and MPDA. He also warned against protecting or supporting criminals, stating that individuals who do so will face consequences. Last year, several individuals were arrested for circulating fearmongering videos on social media, and the police will continue to crack down on such activities.

With these measures in place, Pune is expected to see improvements in both traffic management and crime prevention, enhancing public trust in the police force.
