Hey there, folks! Exciting news coming out of Katraj today as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally acquired 40 gunthas of land at Katraj Chowk after a 28-year wait. This move, which cost the PMC a hefty ₹21.57 crore, is set to ease the chronic traffic congestion at this bustling intersection.
The land, previously owned by Sanjay Gugle, is crucial for the expansion of Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Originally proposed in the 1987 Development Plan, a 30-meter-wide DP road and a 6,200 square meter park were planned for this area. However, with the road width increased to 60 meters in the 2017 DP revision, Gugle’s land was significantly impacted, leading to a court order for compensation.
Under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, Special Land Acquisition Officers Harshad Ghule and Ajikya Patil officially handed over possession documents to Pratibha Patil, Deputy Commissioner of PMC’s Land Acquisition and Management Department. The event was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Engineer Digambar Bigar and Branch Engineer Rupali Dhage.
Katraj Chowk has long been a traffic nightmare due to the narrow road leading to Kondhwa, and the PMC had been attempting to acquire the land using Transferable Development Rights (TDR) or Floor Space Index (FSI) as compensation. However, Gugle insisted on cash payment, causing delays and ultimately leading to a final payout of ₹21.57 crore.
Former Commissioner Vikram Kumar, former Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, and Road Department Head Aniruddha Pawaskar were instrumental in making this acquisition a reality. Pawaskar mentioned that with the land now in PMC’s possession, road widening and chowk expansion will soon begin, bringing much-needed relief to the area’s traffic woes.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in Katraj!
