The Ministry of Defence has greenlit the obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS) assessment at Pune International Airport, a move that will greatly enhance the airport’s operational capacity. The OLS assessment is a crucial regulatory requirement that ensures the airspace around aerodromes remains free of obstacles, allowing for safe aeroplane operations, especially for larger aircraft used for international flights.

City MP and Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, praised the Ministry of Defence for swiftly approving the OLS survey, which will bring Pune Airport one step closer to handling increased international traffic. Mohol credited Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for his proactive role in expediting the approval process.

The decision to conduct the OLS survey was made during a meeting chaired by the Defence Secretary, with representatives from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Pune’s Divisional Commissioner in attendance. The survey, to be carried out by AAI, is expected to pave the way for the expansion of Pune Airport’s runway, allowing for the accommodation of larger aircraft suitable for international travel.
