Shirur was abuzz with activity today as Pune Police launched a massive search operation in Gunat village to track down Dattatraya Gade, the prime suspect in the Shivshahi Bus Rape Case. With over 100 personnel divided into 10 teams, along with dog squads and three drones, the search spanned sugarcane fields and the Gunat-Nirvi road.

Senior Police Officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, were on site to supervise the operation. Despite the exhaustive efforts and support from local residents, Gade managed to evade capture.

Gade, hailing from a humble background with parents working as farmers, has a history of criminal activities, including theft charges. The emergence of photos showing him with political figures has caused a stir in Shirur’s political circles.

In response to the heinous crime, Shirur MLA Dnyaneshwar Katke has called for a fast-track trial and the death penalty for Gade. Former MLA Ashok Pawar echoed these sentiments, urging swift apprehension and punishment for the accused. Pawar also raised concerns about potential accomplices during Gade’s recent trip to Ujjain.

The 26-year-old victim was brutally assaulted in a parked Shivshahi bus at Pune’s Swargate bus depot on 25th February, sparking widespread outrage and mounting pressure on law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice.
