During the operation at Jedhe Chowk and the bus terminal area, officials seized gas cylinders and other unauthorized materials. This move comes after the area has been plagued by encroachments for far too long, with food vendors spilling onto pedestrian walkways and making it difficult for people to move around safely.
The situation has only gotten worse with public drinking and drug abuse becoming rampant under the flyover and on surrounding streets. It’s no surprise that this has led to disturbances and chaos, especially at the bus station where similar issues are prevalent.
The crackdown by the PMC’s Bibwewadi Ward Office targeted vendors who were exceeding their allotted space, setting up unauthorized structures, and using gas cylinders for cooking on the roadside. Assistant Commissioner Pradeep Awhad mentioned that previous penalty actions didn’t do much to solve the problem, and today’s raid uncovered severe unhygienic conditions.
To add to the madness, the presence of unauthorized vendors and parked autorickshaws at the bus station entrance has only worsened traffic congestion. Buses are finding it hard to navigate through the area, leading to frequent jams on the main road.
