Hey there Pune folks! Big news coming your way – the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off a Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination drive for kids aged 1 to 15. This campaign aims to vaccinate a whopping 10,43,420 children in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Raigad, and Parbhani districts.
In line with state government guidelines, this free vaccination campaign is starting today, 1st March 2025. Japanese Encephalitis is a serious brain infection spread by mosquitoes, so getting vaccinated is super important. The PMC’s Health Department has planned 6,692 vaccination sessions across 15 ward offices to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Kids in primary and secondary schools, as well as anganwadis, will be covered in this campaign. Dr. Chetan Khade and Dr. Rajesh Dighe have trained the designated personnel who will then train ward-level teams. Plus, medical and nursing colleges will lend a hand in this massive effort.
A team of 522 trained vaccine injectors, along with 365 ASHA workers, 1,092 anganwadi workers, and 848 teachers, will be on the ground administering the doses. Each ward and circle medical officer will be coordinating efforts in their areas. All the necessary vaccines, syringes, and medical supplies will be coming from the main vaccination office in Narayan Peth.
So, parents, make sure to get your kids vaccinated to protect them from Japanese Encephalitis. Let’s keep our little ones safe and healthy, Pune!
