Fish prices in Pune have hit an all-time high due to limited supply, causing a ripple effect in the market. The price of regular eggs has also seen a significant increase, making it a tough time for consumers.

On Sunday, the fish market in Ganesh Peth was buzzing with activity as tons of deep-sea fish, bay fish, and river fish arrived. Traders reported that Rahu, Katla, and Silan were also transported from Andhra Pradesh to meet the demand.

The price of Pomfret ranged from ₹800 to ₹1,800 per kilogram, while Surmai was selling for ₹480 to ₹1,000 per kilogram. Prawns and lobsters were also not spared from the price hike, with jumbo prawns fetching as much as ₹1,500 per kilogram.

In the egg department, Gavran eggs were being sold for ₹11 each, while regular eggs were priced at ₹7 each. This increase in prices has made it challenging for consumers to keep up with their daily protein intake.

Meat and poultry prices have remained relatively stable, with mutton selling for ₹760 per kilogram and chicken pieces going for ₹250 per kilogram. Despite the rise in fish and egg prices, consumers are still opting for other protein options to balance their meals.

Overall, the surge in fish prices in Pune has left consumers feeling the pinch, but traders are hopeful that the supply chain will stabilize soon to bring down prices. Until then, it looks like Puneites will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets to enjoy their favorite seafood dishes.
