1. The Bombay High Court has granted bail to the minor involved in the tragic Kalyani Nagar Porsche accident that claimed the lives of two IT engineers.
  2. The 17-year-old boy was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his speeding Porsche into a two-wheeler, resulting in the immediate deaths of Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhiya.
  3. Initially bailed by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), the minor was later re-arrested by Pune Police, a move that was deemed illegal by the High Court.
  4. The JJB had faced national criticism for granting bail to the minor within 15 hours of the incident, with conditions that included writing a 300-word essay. This decision was later revoked, and the minor was placed in an Observation Home for Boys.
  5. The minor’s aunt filed a habeas corpus petition in the Bombay High Court, challenging the re-arrest of the minor. The court ruled in favor of the petition, stating that the arrest was illegal as it went against the JJB’s initial bail decision.
  6. The court’s order led to the immediate release of the minor into his aunt’s custody, as concerns were raised about his well-being and safety in the remand home.
  7. With the minor’s parents and grandfather also arrested in connection with the incident, his aunt stepped in to advocate for him in court.
  8. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushma Andhare emphasized the importance of scrutinizing the documents and evidence presented to the court, highlighting potential errors and the responsibilities of the public prosecutor and investigating officer in ensuring justice.
  9. The lawyer for the minor stated that the JJB’s orders detaining the child were invalid and cancelled, calling for his immediate release.
