The recent rape incident at Swargate bus depot has prompted the Regional Transport Department (RTO) to crack down on unauthorized vehicles operating near the premises. Concerns have been raised about the unregulated entry of private bus drivers and rickshaw pullers, leading to security vulnerabilities. The depot manager’s repeated appeals to the police and RTO administration have finally resulted in action being taken.

On Monday, the RTO launched an enforcement drive targeting unauthorized vehicles parked near Swargate Bus Stand. A total of 20 private buses, rickshaws, and other vehicles were fined over ₹1.48 lakh for violations. The Vayuveg team conducted inspections, checking for permits, licenses, uniforms, and passenger safety standards.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pune, Swapnil Bhosale, emphasized that private passenger vehicles are prohibited from operating within 200 meters of bus stations. Similar enforcement actions are expected at other depots in the area to ensure passenger safety and security.

As security concerns grow at transport hubs, authorities are facing increasing pressure to tighten enforcement measures and enhance safety protocols across Pune’s bus depots.
