If you’ve ever found yourself driving on the Chandani Chowk multilevel flyover in Pune and felt a bit lost, you’re not alone. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has acknowledged the confusion faced by motorists due to inadequate signage on the flyover and has taken steps to address the issue.

A recent survey conducted by PMC engineers revealed that key destinations like Chandani Chowk, NDA, Kothrud, Mulshi, Bavdhan, Satara, and Mumbai are not clearly marked on the flyover. This lack of proper directional signs has led to many drivers getting lost and having to ask for directions, causing delays and frustration.

According to a PMC project department official, more than 50 motorists had to stop and ask for directions during the survey. While some signboards do exist, they were placed incorrectly by the contractor. The PMC has now identified the appropriate locations for new signboards and has initiated a tender process to install them.

The confusion is especially challenging for drivers traveling between Kothrud, Bavdhan, and Pashan, as well as those using the Satara-Mumbai highway. Without clear signage, drivers often miss turns and struggle to find the right routes, leading to wasted time and frustration.

Commuters have expressed their frustration over the situation, noting that the existing signs are either too small or not strategically positioned, making them difficult to spot while driving. The lack of visible and properly placed signboards has caused many drivers to take wrong turns and backtrack.

The Chandani Chowk flyover was built at a cost of ₹865 crore by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to ease congestion at one of Pune’s busiest intersections. It connects important routes like Hinjewadi IT Park, the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass, Mulshi Road, Paud Road, and Pashan Road. Despite its intended purpose, the flyover’s confusing signage has been a point of frustration for many commuters.

With PMC’s new initiative to install proper signage, commuters are hopeful that navigating the flyover will become easier and traffic flow will improve. So next time you find yourself on the Chandani Chowk flyover, keep an eye out for the new signboards and enjoy a smoother drive.
