The peaceful neighborhood of Viman Nagar was thrown into chaos on Sunday afternoon when a retired police officer became the target of a brutal attack. Gorakhnath Eknath Shirke, a former sub-inspector, was assaulted with a sharp weapon by a gang of attackers who also vandalized his home in Forest Park.

Shirke, who had served in various Pune police stations during his career, had recently been embroiled in a dispute with Govind Hanumant Kanal over a damaged drainage cover on a public road in the society. Despite Shirke’s efforts to replace the cover, Kanal and his accomplices stormed into Shirke’s home, unleashing a wave of violence that left the entire neighborhood in shock.

With Kanal allegedly brandishing a sword and issuing death threats, the assailants wreaked havoc on Shirke’s property, smashing furniture and causing destruction in their wake. The incident has sparked fear and outrage among residents of Viman Nagar, who are now demanding justice for Shirke and increased security measures in the area.

Police have registered a case against Kanal, his wife, and several others from Yerawada in connection with the attack. Inspector Ashalata Khapre and Sub-Inspector Chetan Bhosale from Airport Police Station are leading the investigation into this disturbing incident, hoping to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the neighborhood.
