Hey folks, have you heard about the recent security audit conducted by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) at 42 bus stations in Pune district? It’s all about enhancing passenger safety after the shocking rape incident at Swargate bus depot.
The three-member committee formed by the MSRTC has recommended the mandatory appointment of female security guards at these stations. Currently, there are no female security guards deployed at any of the 42 bus stations in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas. The committee suggests having six female security guards at major bus stations and two to three at smaller stations.
The audit revealed some concerning findings at major bus stations like Swargate, Wakdewadi, and Baramati. For instance, Swargate and Wakdewadi only have 23 security guards and 24 CCTV cameras each, while Baramati has 42 CCTV cameras. Rural bus stations have just eight CCTV cameras each, with a need for increased surveillance.
Moreover, security walls at rural bus stations were found to be in poor condition, leading to issues like thefts and unauthorized vehicle movement. The report recommends raising and repairing these walls to improve security.
Pramod Nehul, Divisional Controller of MSRTC Pune, emphasized the need to address the gaps identified in the security audit. Recommendations include hiring more security guards, especially female guards, increasing CCTV cameras, and improving security walls. Once the state government approves these recommendations, necessary actions will be taken to enhance passenger safety at bus stations.
The MSRTC aims to prevent future security lapses and ensure the safety of passengers across Pune district with these measures. Stay tuned for updates on this important issue!
