Pune, March 11, 2025: The Sinhagad Institute in Pune is in hot water with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for failing to pay property tax dues amounting to a whopping ₹266 crore. The PMC’s Property Tax Department didn’t hold back and sealed multiple properties of the institute in Vadgaon Budruk and Kondhwa Budruk as part of their seizure proceedings.

Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Collection Department, Madhav Jagtap, didn’t mince words when he confirmed the action, stating, “Sinhagad Institute has been in arrears for many years, and despite repeated notices, the dues remain unpaid. We previously sealed their office in Erandwane, and now we’ve taken similar action in Vadgaon Budruk and Kondhwa Budruk.”

The institute, which owns several properties in different areas of Pune, has racked up a total of ₹345 crore in property tax arrears. The PMC had previously seized the institute’s main office in Erandwane back in December 2024 due to unpaid dues of ₹47.43 crore, and now they’ve initiated auction proceedings for the same office.

In the latest round of action in March 2025, 43 properties in Vadgaon Budruk and 6 properties in Kondhwa Budruk were sealed by the PMC over arrears totaling ₹198.61 crore and ₹20.50 crore, respectively. While the PMC hasn’t taken action against the institute’s operational colleges and schools yet, they have warned that further action will be taken if the outstanding dues remain unpaid.

This crackdown on the Sinhagad Institute is part of the PMC’s efforts to recover property tax and enforce stricter measures against tax defaulters. It’s one of the largest property tax recovery efforts by the PMC, showing that they mean business when it comes to collecting what’s owed to them.
