Hey folks, breaking news from Pune! The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has cracked down on corruption within the construction department of the Pune Zilla Parishad. Three officials have been caught red-handed demanding a hefty bribe of ₹2.5 lakh from a contractor in exchange for approving payment and submitting an inspection report.
The accused have been identified as Baburao Krishna Pawar, Dattatreya Bhagwanrao Pathare, and Anjali Pramod Bagade. Two of them were nabbed accepting ₹1.42 lakh during an ACB trap operation. Looks like these officials thought they could get away with their shady dealings, but justice has caught up with them.
The case revolves around road construction work in Daund Taluka, where the contractor was asked to pay up to get his work approved by the Zilla Parishad committee. When the contractor smelled something fishy, he reported the matter to the ACB, leading to a successful trap operation on March 13.
But wait, there’s more! During the operation, officials found a whopping ₹8.5 lakh in cash stashed in the office of Executive Engineer Baburao Pawar. Talk about a major discovery! The money has been seized for further investigation, and the accused officials are now facing legal proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Kudos to the ACB team led by Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve for their swift action in tackling corruption. Let’s hope this serves as a warning to others thinking of indulging in corrupt practices. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
