Hey there, Pune residents and commuters! Have you been stuck in traffic at Katraj Chowk one too many times? Well, there’s good news on the horizon. MLC member Yogesh Tilekar has given officials and contractors a deadline to complete the Katraj Chowk flyover by December 2025.
After months of delays due to land acquisition issues and traffic planning challenges, work on the flyover has finally resumed. Girders are being laid on the pillars, and once completed, the flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion at Katraj Chowk and Kondhwa Road.
During a recent site inspection, Tilekar discussed the project with various officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zhende and NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik. The widening of Katraj-Kondhwa Road to 84 meters is also in the works, with the Maharashtra government allocating funds for compensating affected landowners.
Tilekar has vowed to raise the issue of accelerating road widening and land acquisition during the upcoming Legislative Council budget session. He is confident that with timely land acquisition, the project could be completed within one to two years.
NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik expressed optimism about the project, stating that all girders for the flyover are ready and work is progressing well. Chief Engineer of the PMC Roads Department, Aniruddha Pawaskar, also assured that road concreting will be completed soon after acquiring necessary land.
The Katraj flyover and road widening projects are crucial for easing Pune’s traffic congestion, and residents are eagerly awaiting their completion. Let’s hope for a smooth and timely execution of these much-needed infrastructure projects!
