Hey folks, it’s time to talk about the rising air pollution issue in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, particularly in the Wakad area. The culprit? Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants popping up left and right to meet the demand for construction projects.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) is not taking this lightly and has launched a crackdown on these pollution-causing plants. One such plant operated by Vilas Javadekar Infinity Developers in Wakad has been served a notice to respond within seven days.
Local residents have been up in arms about the deteriorating air quality, leading to protests and the shutdown of four RMC plants by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). But the pollution problem persisted, prompting MPCB to step in and take stricter action.
Upon inspection, the Vilas Javadekar Infinity Developers plant was found to be lacking pollution control systems and failing to meet the conditions set during its approval. Key violations include the absence of concrete internal roads, lack of sewage treatment facilities, improper wastewater disposal, high levels of dust pollution, and ineffective dust control measures.
MPCB is not messing around and has warned of legal action, including shutting down the plant if the company fails to respond within seven days. Vilas Javadekar Infinity Developers has maintained that they are following all regulations and will submit a detailed response with evidence.
Regional Officer of MPCB, Jagannath Salunkhe, has made it clear that failure to address the violations will result in legal proceedings and strict penalties. Let’s hope for a swift resolution to this air pollution problem in Wakad before it gets out of hand. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
