Hey Pune folks, have you heard about the latest news on the city’s water tanks? Despite the PMC’s promise to clean all 144 municipal water tanks after a GBS case was discovered, only 52 tanks have been cleaned so far. Yikes!

Nandkishore Jagtap, head of PMC’s water supply department, said, “GBS is caused by bacteria in contaminated water, so we’re making sure to clean the tanks to prevent the disease from spreading.” The cleaning process has been focused on the Sinhagad Road area, where the outbreak was more severe.

But don’t worry, PMC is on it! They’re working hard to clean the remaining tanks as quickly as possible. The cleaning process is being done in phases to avoid any disruptions to the city’s drinking water supply. Safety first, right?

The first cases of GBS were reported in Pune two months ago, with a spike in cases in areas like Khadakwasla, Nanded, Dhayri, Kirkitwadi, and nearby areas on Sinhagad Road. Investigations revealed that contaminated drinking water was to blame, leading to immediate corrective measures by the civic body.

To prevent further contamination, PMC has increased the chlorine content in the water supply and installed iron grates on wells to keep debris out. They’ve also made improvements to sewage-related infrastructure in the most affected areas.

With GBS cases still popping up, residents in affected areas are understandably worried about water safety and the slow progress of the municipal cleaning efforts. Let’s hope PMC can get those tanks cleaned up soon to ensure everyone in Pune has access to clean, safe drinking water. Stay safe, Pune!
