If you were out and about in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad on Friday, you might have noticed a heightened police presence on the roads. That’s because the police in these cities were cracking down on drunk driving during the Holi celebrations.

A total of 334 offenders were caught in Pune, while 272 were nabbed in Pimpri Chinchwad for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Additional Commissioner of Police (East) in Pune, Manoj Patil, explained that the operation was aimed at preventing accidents caused by intoxicated driving and ensuring public safety.

With 1,500 police personnel stationed at 60 checkpoints across the city, the police were on high alert for drunk drivers, triple-seat riders, wrong-side motorists, and speeders in no-entry zones. To aid in their efforts, the traffic police deployed 240 breath analysers at various checkpoints.

Areas like Nagar Road, Mundhwa, Koregaon Park, and Vimanagar were closely monitored throughout the day, with strict checks in place to catch offenders. By the evening, 200 individuals had already been penalized for their actions.

Over in Pimpri Chinchwad, a similar drive was conducted at 25 checkpoints, resulting in 272 violators being caught for drunk driving. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar emphasized the importance of sending a strong message that drunk driving will not be tolerated.

As the authorities continue to crack down on drunk driving, citizens are urged to exercise caution and avoid getting behind the wheel while under the influence. Enforcement drives like these will be ongoing to ensure road safety in the future. So remember, stay safe and don’t drink and drive!
