Hey there, Pune peeps! Big news coming your way about the long-awaited Purandar greenfield airport project. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is gearing up to raise a whopping ₹3,500 crore through private agencies to acquire land for the project. This will cover a massive 2,753 hectares across seven villages in Purandar tehsil. And guess what? An additional 70 hectares will be acquired from the forest department, making the total land requirement 2,823 hectares. That’s a whole lot of land, folks!
The recent notification under the MIDC Act has officially declared these villages as part of an industrial zone, marking a significant step forward for the airport project. But hold your horses, land transactions and ownership changes within this area are strictly prohibited. The government means business when it comes to acquiring this land.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured us that the project is on the fast track. MIDC will be using its own funds for land acquisition, aiming to complete the process within a year. Hearings will be conducted to address concerns from landowners before finalizing compensation, and construction is expected to kick off after May 2026.
But not everyone is on board with this project. The Vimantal Virodhi Sangharsh Samiti is up in arms against the industrial zone notification, fearing the loss of their precious farmlands. And surprise, surprise – the state budget didn’t even mention the airport project. What’s up with that?
On the political front, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol is pushing hard for the airport, emphasizing its importance for Pune’s growth. He believes the new airport is essential to meet the region’s increasing air traffic and connectivity needs.
With renewed momentum behind the project, the real challenge now lies in addressing landowners’ concerns and executing a smooth land acquisition process. Stay tuned for more updates on this game-changer for Pune!
