Early Onset of Summer in Pune

Pune is currently experiencing an early onset of summer, with temperatures reaching over 40°C in various parts of the city. This unseasonal heatwave has caught many residents off guard, as January saw some of the highest temperatures in the last decade. After a brief respite in February, March has brought back the scorching heat, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue heatwave precautions.

Experts believe that the lack of winter rainfall in Maharashtra has contributed to the intense heatwave-like conditions. The black cotton and red soil in the region are absorbing and retaining more heat than usual, leading to an early and prolonged summer season.

IMD Issues Heatwave Advisory

As the temperatures continue to rise, the IMD has issued a heatwave advisory for Pune. With warmer nights and higher minimum temperatures, residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe. The advisory includes staying indoors between 11 AM and 4 PM, staying hydrated, wearing light and breathable clothing, and using umbrellas, hats, and sunscreen when venturing outside.

While there may be a temporary dip in temperatures, experts are warning that the summer is far from over and will intensify again. It is essential for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for the upcoming heatwaves in the city. Stay safe, Pune!
