Hey Pune peeps, buckle up because the traffic police are cracking down on underage drivers once again! After a tragic accident involving a minor driving a Porsche in Kalyaninagar last year, the authorities have revived their campaign against minors behind the wheel.

In just the first two months of 2025, the police have already nabbed 25 underage drivers and slapped them with fines totaling ₹1.25 lakh. Last year, they recorded 73 cases and collected ₹3.50 lakh in penalties from parents who allowed their kids to drive illegally.

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil has vowed to take strict action against parents of minor drivers, with plans to implement e-filing of cases and take legal action directly through the court. They’re also ramping up enforcement at the start of the next academic year to target underage drivers and hold their parents accountable.

It seems minors prefer to stick to internal roads and bylanes rather than major roads, but the police are onto them. They’ll be keeping a close eye on routes leading to schools and colleges to catch any underage drivers in the act.

With several accidents involving minors reported in areas like Katraj, Kondhwa, Wanowrie, and Uttamnagar, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has also joined the fight against underage driving. They’re reminding the public that parents or vehicle owners of minors caught driving illegally could face hefty penalties or even imprisonment.

So parents, make sure your kids are driving legally, or you might find yourself in some serious trouble with the law. Let’s keep Pune’s roads safe for everyone!
