Hey Pune peeps, heads up! Varandha Ghat is officially off-limits until the end of August this year. Yup, you heard it right – no traffic allowed on the Varandha Ghat route to Mahad via Bhor for the next couple of months. Why, you ask? Well, it’s all about safety during the monsoon season.

The India Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts, warning us about heavy rainfall and the potential for landslides, fallen trees, road collapses, and mudslides in the area. And let’s not forget the recent incident near the Waghjai Mata Mandir – that protective wall and road collapse was a real wake-up call.

Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase has taken charge and ordered the closure of Varandha Ghat to protect us from any more risks. Those winding roads are just too risky during the rainy season, with all those sudden falls, tree collapses, erosion, and mudslides waiting to happen.

If you were planning a trip to Mahad or Konkan, don’t worry – there are alternative routes like Tamhini Ghat and Ambenali Ghat that you can take instead. And it’s not just Varandha Ghat that’s on lockdown – other dangerous tourist spots near Pune might be next.

So, stay safe, stay dry, and plan your travel accordingly. Let’s all do our part to prevent any rain-related disasters this monsoon season.
