Hey Pune folks, it looks like the Property Tax Department is in hot water with PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale ordering a thorough review of their operations. With revenue falling short of targets and technical glitches causing chaos, it’s no wonder citizens are fed up with the poor service.
Seems like the Property Tax Department was supposed to rake in ₹2,700 crore this year, but they’ve only managed to collect ₹2,150 crore so far. Yikes! Dr. Bhosale is on a mission to figure out why they’re missing the mark and has vowed to get to the bottom of it.
Many of you have applied for tax concessions and assessments, but it seems like your applications have fallen through the cracks. Don’t worry, Dr. Bhosale is planning to hold Lok Adalats and Ward-level camps to sort out these issues once and for all.
In other news, the State Government has decided to halt property tax collection from 23 villages that were recently merged into PMC limits. Residents of these villages won’t be receiving tax bills from April onwards. But fear not, the State Government is considering doubling the tax rates to make up for the loss in revenue.
But hold up, this move has put a strain on PMC’s finances. They’re now asking the State Government for ₹250 crore to help develop basic amenities in the merged villages. Let’s hope they get the support they need to keep Pune running smoothly.
