Hey Pune movie buffs, mark your calendars because the NFDC-National Film Archive of India (NFDC-NFAI) is bringing you a special treat! From March 21 to March 23, 2025, they will be hosting a retrospective titled “The World Through the Eyes of Sai Paranjpye”, celebrating the incredible career of writer, playwright, and filmmaker Sai Paranjpye.
This festival will feature 9 of Sai Paranjpye’s most iconic films, showcasing her talent across different genres and styles. And guess what? Sai Paranjpye herself will be there to introduce her films and chat with the audience after the screenings. How cool is that?
But wait, it gets even better! Some of the films have been restored in 4K and digitized in 2K as part of the National Film Heritage Mission. This means you’ll get to see these classics in the best quality possible, thanks to NFDC-NFAI’s efforts to preserve India’s cinematic heritage.
The festival kicks off with the children’s fantasy film Jadu Ka Shankh on Friday, March 21, followed by Papeeha, a touching story about environmental conservation on Saturday, March 22. The lineup also includes films like Sikander, Horrrn Pukare, Suee, Disha, Katha, Chakachak, and Saaz, each exploring different themes and showcasing Sai Paranjpye’s unique storytelling style.
And the best part? Entry is free! So grab your popcorn and head over to enjoy these cinematic gems that highlight empathy, social commentary, and joy. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the magic of Sai Paranjpye’s world and connect with her timeless stories.
