Hey Pune peeps, have you heard the latest buzz about a dog park coming to Katraj? Yes, you read that right! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to establish the city’s first dog park next to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj. But hold your woofs, because the Central Zoo Authority of India hasn’t given the green light yet.

With Pune’s population on the rise, so is the number of furry friends in the city. And let’s face it, our canine companions need a place to stretch their legs and have some off-leash fun. Dog owners in Pune often find themselves walking their pups along the roads, leading to some not-so-pleasant situations with doggy doo-doo.

Taking inspiration from the dog parks in Mumbai and Hyderabad, the PMC decided to create a pawsome four and a half-acre space on the Katraj-Kondhwa road. The plan included walkways, poop scoopers, composting pits, a veterinary clinic, a training center, a play area, a grooming parlour, a swimming pool for dogs, and even parking for all the dog lovers out there. Sounds like a doggy paradise, right?

But alas, the project hit a roadblock as the Central Zoo Authority of India hasn’t given the thumbs up yet. Despite the PMC’s assurance that the park will be completely separate from the Zoological Park and won’t disturb the animals, approval is still pending. The Garden Department of the PMC has been sending requests, but no luck so far.

Fear not, dog lovers of Pune! The PMC is exploring other large spaces in the city for the dog park, including a location in Baner along the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. While the new site might be smaller, it’s better to have a smaller dog park than no dog park at all, right?

So, keep your tails wagging, Pune! The dog park dream is still alive, and we’ll keep you updated on all the paw-some developments. Stay tuned for more updates on this woof-tastic news!
