In a bid to ramp up security measures during the upcoming Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Sohala, Pune Police have cracked down on the private use of drone cameras for filming. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the ban on June 29, requiring individuals to obtain police permission before operating drones for filming purposes.
The decision to impose restrictions on drone filming without authorization is rooted in concerns over potential misuse and security risks associated with the revered Palkhi processions. These annual events, now in their 193rd edition, hold significant cultural and religious importance, attracting large crowds and necessitating strict security measures.
Set to arrive in Pune on June 30, Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s Palkhi will make its way from Pimpri Chinchwad in the afternoon. The two Palkhis will meet at Patil Estate before embarking on a designated route that includes key chowks and temples across Pune city.
Individuals keen on filming with drones must seek permission by submitting applications at their local police station. Each application will be evaluated by the police to determine if approval can be granted, with the aim of curbing unauthorized drone use during the processions and upholding safety regulations and legal standards.
Commissioner Kumar stressed that unauthorized drone filming could lead to legal repercussions due to the potential for misuse and disruption of public safety measures. The ban on private drone filming is set to be in force until July 3, aligning with the duration of the Palkhi processions.
As part of the preparations, traffic arrangements in Nana Peth and Bhavani Peth areas will be adjusted to cater to the halting points of Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s Palkhi at Shri Nivdunga Vitthal Temple and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi at Shri Palkhi Vitthal Temple, respectively. These adjustments aim to ensure smooth passage and safety for participants and onlookers alike.
With Pune gearing up to host these momentous Palkhi processions, the implementation of drone filming regulations underscores the commitment to safeguarding public events while upholding cultural traditions and religious practices.
