Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune today – the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the demolition of 29 bungalows and structures in Chikhali built illegally within the floodline of the Indrayani River. These constructions were part of the controversial “River Villa” project, which raised eyebrows due to the lack of proper permissions.

The project, developed by M/s. Jare World and M/s. V. Square, was situated in a restricted area marked by the blue flood line of the Indrayani River. The NGT’s Western bench, led by Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh and expert member Dr. Vijay Kulkarni, has given the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) six months to complete the demolition.

In addition to tearing down the structures, PCMC has been directed to collect a hefty Environmental Damage Compensation (EDC) of Rs. 5 Crores from the bungalow owners and others involved in the illegal constructions. This amount will be proportionately levied based on the plot area.

The NGT’s decision was prompted by a petition filed in 2020 by a concerned resident of Pune, Tanaji Balasaheb Gambhire. The tribunal criticized PCMC for its lack of timely action and stressed the importance of enforcing environmental regulations to protect flood-prone areas.

So, it looks like the bungalow owners will have to say goodbye to their River Villa dreams. Let’s hope this serves as a lesson in following the rules when it comes to construction projects. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
